AVP, Database Engineer | Banking
Our global investment bank client is looking for a high calibre to join their database team as a AVP Database Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and operate resilient enterprise database platforms with a focus on availability, performance, and security.
- Continuously monitor and fine-tune database environments, performing capacity forecasting to support business growth.
- Design, execute, and validate backup, recovery, and disaster resilience solutions to protect critical data assets.
- Plan and deliver database upgrades, patches, and migrations, including remediation of aging platforms and technologies.
- Apply strong security controls, access management, and compliance practices aligned with internal and regulatory standards.
- Diagnose and resolve complex database incidents, providing senior-level escalation and root-cause analysis.
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, cloud, and platform teams to enable stable and scalable solutions.
- Act as a trusted advisor to projects and stakeholders, translating functional needs into effective database designs.
- Drive automation, standardization, and documentation to improve operational efficiency.
- Participate in on-call support and conduct regional DR/BCP exercises to ensure service continuity.
Key Requirements
- Extensive experience managing enterprise databases such as Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL platforms.
- Strong background in performance optimization, high availability, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Hands-on experience supporting databases across Linux and Windows environments.
- Exposure to virtualization, cloud platforms, and container-based ecosystems is advantageous.
- Ability to automate administrative tasks using scripting and orchestration tools.
- Proven troubleshooting skills for business-critical systems under pressure.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
